Image result for 500 people gatherings Australia

Hillsong wasted no time in deciding to follow government recommendations to stop all large gatherings over 500 that were announced last weekend.

Their website shows that they are continuing to hold services through a ‘Hybrid version’ on line. Now I get that its easier with such communications tools to keep an appearance of normality, but staring at my computer screen at an empty auditorium, with a spotlight on Brian, is hardly church.

Hillsong produced this Health notice earlier in the week.

HEALTH AND SAFETY NOTICE REGARDING CORONAVIRUS COVID-19

Last updated: 16 March 8am

THE BELOW ADVICE IS IN RELATION TO HILLSONG CHURCH AUSTRALIA

We want to inform you of the following precautionary measures we are taking for Hillsong Church Australia in relation to Coronavirus COVID-19. We would greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation in these matters.

Key Points

  • As of now, our weekend church services are gathering ‘online’ across all our Australian locations, and until further notice, as required by our State and Federal health authorities.
  • Our congregations will continue to gather in small groups in households mid-week.
  • For ongoing support our church offices will remain open and functioning throughout the week

For your attendance at any of our small groups or church facilities, we require you to observe the following:

  • If you or your child are feeling unwell please stay home and rest, seek medical attention, and you must not attend.
  • If you have travelled from overseas within the last 14 days, you must not attend.
  • If you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, you should have already received medical attention and been instructed to be in home isolation. Regardless of whether you have, you must not attend.
  • If you have a COVID-19 test result pending, you must not attend.

We ask that you stay informed of the risks associated with COVID-19 and act on the information regarding preventative measures, such as social distancing, as directed by the authorities.

The Australian Government’s advice and information can be found at health.gov.au and also at your State or Territory health authority.

Our team are also monitoring the situation regularly and are following the advice given by relevant State and Federal health authorities.

Ultimately, even as we pursue preventative measures and exercise wisdom in keeping ourselves and loved ones safe, our faith and security is in Jesus Christ. We pray His promise of protection over you and your family. Let’s also pray for those affected around the world, and that the virus will be quickly contained and conquered.

One final note to emphasise, this information should not alarm or heighten any distress you may have surrounding recent developments of the novel Coronavirus. Rather, our desire is for you to be informed and know that our heart is to protect and ensure the safety of all so we can continue to worship together.

“Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.” Psalm 91:9-10

Comments:

I’m sorry Brian but you can’t gather ‘online’…You either continue normal Sunday meetings or meet in houses in smaller numbers.  Looking at you on my computer, or on my TV screen is not a gathering.

Brian suggests that Hillsong has decided to “exercise wisdom in keeping ourselves and loved ones safe, (still) our faith and security is in Jesus Christ. We pray His promise of protection over you and your family.”

How can one exercise wisdom by stopping all services, yet somehow Hillsong’s faith and security is in Jesus Christ?

Note the last line , “Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place,no evil shall befall you…..”

So even though the Lord is their refuge, just in case He’s not we will close up shop and try and continue church on line with modern technology., because we might just find the evil befalls you, and  the plague does spread throughout our dwelling”

And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.  — 2 Sam 24:25

Remembering this decision is coming from a church that believes in Health Wealth and Prosperity.

Of course they still have the services going even with the challenges of coronavirus, so that they can maintain the offerings, and still have the money coming in.

And just so this sinks in, ALL of their campuses worldwide are going to on-line services starting this Sunday.
